What Should I Take?
So, you have read the blog and found some super saver
tickets to Europe for next year but you have no idea what you will need on this
trip! In this installment we will go over a couple of items Lisa and I have
found incredibly useful and now we won’t go without them.
When I first travelled to Europe about five years ago, I was
super thorough and looked up the plug I would need in each country, purchased
them and carried 4 plugs with me for the trip!
We’ve come a long way baby! Now you can buy a universal plug
that changes itself to fit every European receptacle. During our most recent
trip, we found that most modern hotels were equipped with bedside and bathroom
USB plugs allowing for seamless charging of your devices overnight. We split
our time between hotels and Airbnb’s so we need the universal plugs. This year we
were in Ireland, Italy and France, last year Ireland, Austria and Italy.
This plug has never let us down!
This is an absolute must for Lisa and I when traveling. Air
Conditioning in Europe is not quite what Americans are used to. Very often
there will only be air conditioning in certain rooms of and rental you have. I
am always hot and I know most of the women reading this in their 50’s will
agree with me, there is no sleeping without this fan blowing on me.
I purchased this fan for use at aquatic centers around the
US with my kid, little did I know how valuable it was in Europe. Many European
hotels will put a restriction on their AC units so you cannot cool the room
below 22C which is just about 72 degrees…..this fan made it tolerable and
sleepable for us. The battery lasted all night on the middle setting and if you
notice, it has its own built in stand so its perfect at the end of the bed!
Finally, this third product is absolutely not a necessity but
I’m going to share it with you to help avoid the embarrassment of opening,
unpacking and repacking at the ticket counter because your bag is 3 pounds
overweight. We have all witnessed this and the 75 people behind you waiting to
check in are wishing a horrible illness befall you. One of the things we
noticed on the trip this year was that weight limits changed from flight to
flight even with the same airline, some were #50 and some were #40. This little
piece of equipment will help you avoid costly fees and embarrassment when your
underwear is all over the airport floor!
